The Environment Programme is a major part of our commitment to conservation and sustainable use of resources, and to encouraging people to strengthen their link with the land through work opportunities (paid/voluntary), access and educational activities.

Educational work with schools, colleges and community groups

Pond dipping

We can offer you practical demonstrations in the field and workshop at Bore Place, including: mallet making, site ecology, pond dips, willow work, restoration hedgelaying, nightwalks, waste audits...

Field trails

Walk our 2.5 mile field trail - or the mini-trail which is close to the stream and gardens and accessible to wheelchair users.

The Green Wood Workshop courses

Coppicing and woodland conservation supply the raw materials for our Green Wood Workshop courses – a completely sustainable system of wood working. Make a chair - weave a basket - learn how to pleach, stake and bind a hedge.  You can learn the joy of working with rather than against the wood.
The Green Wood Workshop is run by Underwoodsman John Waller.

Habitat management

Woodlands, ponds, hedges and small grassland areas at Bore Place are managed to improve their value to wildlife.  This is part of a whole farm plan which allows farming and wildlife to co-exist within day to day farm management.  For example the timing of site operations such as hedge trimming, and the identifying of field margins and other sensitive areas minimises the disturbance of usual field management  and creates stable wildlife ' corridors'.
